Education is a key tool for building a fairer and more peaceful world. Aware of this reality, the league annually awards the peace education prize, a distinction that recognizes outstanding initiatives in support of human rights and education. This year, 16 laureates have been honored for their contributions in these fields.
An Ambitious Project Led by Committed High School Students
Among the laureates, students from Lycée Emmanuel d’Alzon caught attention with an ambitious project on children’s rights. Enrolled in their final year of HGGSP (History-Geography, Geopolitics, and Political Science), they conducted a six-month investigation into education systems and child protection in seven countries. Their work, focused on legal and educational analysis, was presented as part of the 96th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, held in Geneva from May 6 to 24.
The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child recognized their efforts by publishing their reports on its official website, highlighting the depth and rigor of their research. This experience allowed the students to engage with the realities of diplomacy and international institutions while deepening their understanding of key issues related to children’s rights and education.
Beyond this distinction, the peace education prize emphasizes the importance of youth engagement in building a more united and fair future. It underscores the need to encourage young people to stay informed, conduct research, and express themselves on major global issues, equipping them with the tools to become informed and responsible citizens.
